Chris Matthews, on his show "Hardball" had the audacity to try and place some of the blame for Rep. Weiner's "issues" on his wife.
CHRIS MATTHEWS, MSNBC: "Yeah, but he says his wife knew. He laid it out on her."
JOHN FEEHERY, Republican strategist: "Which is a terrible, terrible mistake."
MATTHEWS: "Well, maybe she's partly responsible if she knew about it?"
Ed Schultz, such a calm guy normally (ahem) is calling for Rep. Weiner to resign, not because of the sexting, photos, Tweeting, Facebook messaging and phone sex, but because Rep. Weiner lied for over a week. He wants Weiner to take one for the team, do the noble thing, and step down. I agree, BUT I also wanted the following men to do the same:
David Vitter (R) was listed as a client in the DC madam's phone book. He hired hookers. That's ILLEGAL. He's still in office, still running as a famly values guy.
Mark Sandford (R) told his staff to lie and say he was wandering the Appalachian Trail while he was actually in South America, holding hands on the beach with his mistress. He said this woman was his "soul mate". He did not resign, he was voted out of office.
Jim Gibbons (R) was accused of sexually assaulting a waitress and paying her to cover it up. He did not resign, he was voted out of office.
John Ensign (R) used his position and federal money to try and cover up an affair he had with a staffer who was also a close family friend, along with her HUSBAND. Her husband has told media that Ensign pursued her relentlessly, and used his position to force her to have the affair. He resigned literally HOURS before he learned the Department of Justice was looking into indicting him.
Now, in keeping with all this, Rachel Maddow coined a new phrase: IOKIYAR, or It's Okay If You're A Republican. The previous evening, she introduced her audience to the Sex Scandal Consequence-O-Meter, and complete with slappy hand pointer and a Y and X graph, proceeded to list in order of creepiness and prosecutablity, sex scandals since Clinton. We had Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Eliot Spitzer (who stepped down), John Edwards, The Governator, the men I have mentioned above and Rep. Weiner. Most of these men scored MUCH higher than Rep. Weiner on both the creepiness axis and the illegal axis.
Last night, she had former RNC chairman, Michael Steele on her program. He was wearing a very nice suit, albeit a bit shiny, and looked very happy to be there. Of course, when the group that fired you is going down in flames, and your replacement's name sounds like a Nazi foot fungus, why wouldn't Steele be tickled pink? Reince Priebus wants Rep. Weiner to resign.
“Congressman Weiner's actions and deception are unacceptable and he should resign. We do not need an investigation to know he lied and acted inappropriately, we need a resignation," said Priebus in a written statement. "Either Leader Pelosi and DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz believe members of Congress are held to a different set of standards or they believe these actions demand his resignation.”
Held to a different set of standards. Really? From where I sit, and Rachel Maddow sits, and most liberals sit, it's the part of family values that has a different set of standards. Priebus called Rep. Weiner a "creep". Martin Bashir then asked Priebus if he thought John Ensign was a creep. The link below is to to video of Bashir's interview with Preibus, and the Weiner comments begin at 3:44.
(No, he doesn't think Ensign is a creep)
Want to hear something shocking? Liberals are the ACTUAL family values party, because we actually care about your family. We don't want to cut state and federal funds that help low income families survive from day to day. We want women to be able to access low cost or free health care at Planned Parenthood. If a woman is raped or molested, and becomes pregnant, we want that woman to be able to receive an abortion. We want to end the wars and bring our troops home, so they can be with their families. We believe that anyone who lies, and misuses their office in either the House or the Senate, or violates the ethics laws of said office, should step down. But, in American, IOKIYAR. Just not if you're a liberal.
